Shirva MSW Convention

Press Note: St. Mary’s college, Shirva (Post Graduate Department of Social Work) organized a two days National level conference on “Redefining Social Work Profession in Multi-cultural Contexts” on 11th and 12th October 2012 at Saude Sabha Bhavan Hall.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Y.S. Sidde Gowda, Registrar Karnataka Sanscrit Gandhi doss on 11th October 2012 at 10.00 am. Mr. Pramod Madwaraj, Industrialist, Malpe was the chief guest. Dr. Ilango Ponnuswami, Professor & Head, Bharathidasan University, Tamil Nadu delivered the Key Note address. Dr. J.C. Miranda, Princiapl, St. Mary’s College, Shirva were present. Very Rev Fr Stany Tauro, Correspondent of the college presided over the programme.

The valedictory session was held on 12th October at 3.30 pm. Mr. P.J.Rai, General Manager-HR, MCF, Mangalore was the chief guest and was presided by Very Rev Fr Stany Tauro, Correspondent of the college

The conference focused on Social Work Profession in multi-cultural contexts and its need to redefine and reposition itself to be relevant to its times. The first expert session on Perspective building for Social Work Profession in multi-cultural contexts and moderator of the first panel discussion on Practice of Social Work Profession in multi-cultural framework by Dr. Vimla Nadkarni, Professor & Dean, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. The panelists were Rev.Dr. Santiago Joseph OFM Cap., Anugraha Institute of Social Sciences, Tamilnadu, India and Dr.Anand Jerard Sebastine, Asst.Professor  in Social Work, Centre for Rural Development, Periyar Maniammai University, Thanjavur, Tamilnadu. The second expert session on Social Work Research in multi-cultural contexts and moderator of the second panel discussion on Administration of Social Work Delivery Services in Multi-cultural Contexts by Dr. Deepak Walokar, Director, Karve Institute of Social Services, Pune. The panelists were Dr. Ilango Ponnuswamy, Professor  & Head, Bharathidasan University, Tamil Nadu and Dr. Ashok D’Souza, Assistant Professor, Tumkur University, Tumkur.

The conference also invited papers by teacher delegates and student delegates under the broad theme of the conference. The theme based cultural items were presented by various colleges. More than 30 papers and 15 participant colleges participated in these two events respectively.

Ace Spikers, Konkans Dubai and Bunts Dubai win Lourdes Kanajar Trophies

Sharjah, Dec 02: Ace Spikers and Konkans Dubai have won the Lourdes Kanajar cup volleyball and throwball tournaments, respectively, whereas  Bunts Dubai emerged as winners of men’s throw ball trophy.

Lourdes Kanajar Tourney on Dec 2 – Men’s throwball an added attraction

Dubai, November 27: LKAE is all set to host its 9th annual Volleyball and Throwball tournaments on the 2nd of December at Sharjah Wonderer’s Club, as previously announced.

Kanajar Parish Feast Preparations

Kanajar, November 27: In preparation of the parish feast of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar to be celebrated on 5th and 6th of December 2012  the banner of Our Lady of Lourdes (bonder of Lourdes Saibin) was hoisted near the Lourdes Grotto on Sunday 25th November, 2012. After the Mass all the devotees went in a procession near the grotto. Rev. Fr.Dr.John Mendonca blessed the Bonder and then hoisted.

Children's Day Celebrated at Kanajar

Kanajar, November 14: In the platinum Jubilee year 2012, the month of November is dedicated to all children of our parish. On 12th of November 2012, children’s day was celebrated and celebrations were held between 8.45 am to 11.45 am at Sauharda Bhavan Kanajar.

First Holy Communion at Kanajar

Kanajar, November 04: Nine (9) children of our Parish received First Holy Communion on Sunday 4thof November 2012 during 10 am mass 9 which included 7 boys and 2 girls.

Month Dedicated to Children Celebrated

Kanajar, November 04: The month of November is dedicated to the children of our parish in the Platinum Jubilee year celebrations. On Sunday 4th of November 2012 at the beginning of 10 am mass a flex depicting a picture of Jesus Christ with children was carried to the Altar by Altar servers and handed over to the priest who placed it in front of the Altar as a mark to the beginning of the month for Children.
