Fr. John Mendonca: Judicial Vicar of Diocese of Udupi

Udupi, January 26: Very Rev. Fr. Dr. John Mendonca, Parish Priest of Kanajar, took charge as the first Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Udupi on 25th of January 2013. He made the Profession of Faith and took the Oath of Office before the Bishop of Udupi in the Bishop’s Chapel. The Vicar General and a few others were present on the occasion of this meaningful ceremony.

Day of Elderly Celebrated at Kanajar

Kanajar, January 22: Day of the elderly was celebrated on 14th January 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Kanajar. The day was celebrated with mass at 10.30 am and afterwards a stage function was held.

Kanajar Parishioners welcome New Year with prayers

Kanajar, January 1: Kanajar Parishioners welcomed the New Year with the customary thanksgiving mass on Friday, 31st of December. The vigil began with an hour long adoration of the Holy Sacrament at 6.30 pm followed by Holy Mass at 7 pm.

Feast of Holy Innocents’ celebrated at Kanajar

Kanajar, December  29: Parishioners celebrated the feast of Holy Innocents on 28th of December. Large number of children along with their parents attended the Holy Mass at 8 am celebrated by Rev. Fr. Dr. John Mendonca. After the final blessing children lined for the adoration of baby Jesus.

Christmas Celebrations at Kanajar

Kanajar, December 25: Christmas, the feast celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ was celebrated at Kanajar. The Christmas celebrations began on Christmas Eve at 7 pm with the Parish choir singing traditional Christmas carols. The carols were followed by the Eucharistic celebration at 7.30 pm, offered by Rev. Fr. Dr. John Mendonca, who was the main celebrant. Rev. Dr. Ronald Tellis native priest of Kanajar, who is now Professor at Allahabad Seminary, Fr. William D'Souza and Rev. Fr. Sunil Menezes concelebrated at the Eucharist.

Deacon Sunil Cornelio accorded warm welcome at Kanajar

Kanajar, December 22: Brother Sunil Cornelio was given a warm welcome on December 16th at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Kanajar after the Sunday first mass, who will be serving as the Deacon at Kanajar parish. Mr. Ignatius D'Souza, Vice-President, Parish Council offered him a flower bouquet and welcomed him to Kanajar on behalf of all parishioners.

Kanajar parishioners present Christmas tableau in and around Kanajar

Kanajar, December 20: On Thursday, 20th of December 2012 Christmas tableau was presented at five (5) localities around Kanajar  parish including Kanajar, Hiriydaka Bailur, Palli and Ranganpalke. This program was organized to spread the message of Christmas by Kanajar parishioners belonging to Our Lady of Lourdes Church.


At 3.30 pm the procession led by Santa Claus began from Kanajar Church. The procession was followed by team of YCS and ICYM members clad in red which was accompanied by a float of the crib. Parishioners joined in the festive procession in their 2, 3 and 4 wheelers accompanied by the joyous music provided by Nidhish Sound Systems and Sunshine band Perampalli, which added beauty and flavor to the procession.

The congregation gathered at Kanajar, Hiriyadka, Bailur, Palli and Ranganaplake where the children accompanying the tableau danced to a tune of Christmas greetings and carols.

At Kanajar the program began at 3.30 pm, where a beautiful Christmas skit in Kannada was performed by the ICYM and YCS units of the parish. The little children with their dance added beauty to the skit. The dance of the Santa-Claus and his team was very joyful and gave the festive mood to the celebrations.  Santa Claus with his festive moves enthralled the audience and the delighted parishioners and some locals also joined in the fun which was supported by fire crackers and the melodious sound of Sunshine band. Later Santa Claus together with his team and parishioners distributed the cake to all.

The parish priest Fr. Dr. John Mendonca gave a short but meaningful Christmas message and invoked the blessings of Jesus Christ on all the gathered. The whole program was conducted in Kannada and Tulu.

Then the procession moved to Hiriyadka and then to Bailur, Palli where a similar program was held.  At 6.30 pm the fifth and final celebration was held at Ranganpalke. More than thousand people of different communities took part in these Christmas Celebrations.

Local public representatives participated in these celebrations. Members of Lions Club Neere Bailur were present.  Syndicate Bank Kanajar and Syndicate Bank Palli sponsored the Christmas cake that was distributed at various public places.

Mr. Prakash Martis compered the program. Mr. Vinod Menezes efficiently organized the traffic flow during this entire program.
